I loved your fervor on this subject. It shows you’re passionate about the Gnooze. I put a link on my blog site a couple weeks back and I will write something about your show. I love what you do and how you come across. Keep it up!
Thanks
Thanks NEIM! I really am passionate about it so I’m glad that it came through. Thanks for posting gnooze on your site. That rocks!
Yes! It’s like I’m sitting here saying, “Well, gee, this gal is making total common sense and I always suspected that stuff about the Saudis and I really don’t know much about South America and, like, gee, it must be hard for reporters to write a four page article about a one sentence, off-hand comment some person said while being crowded into a corner by hundreds of people with microphones and camera phones and…” Uhmm… so, yeah! And good job on the news!
Thank you Art! That’s the thing: there’s so much news to cover that it’s hard enough for reporters who want to live up to the fullest responsibility of the Fourth Estate as it is, without a bunch of foaming at the mouth, if-it-bleeds-it-leads crazies. It’s just maddening!
Anyway, thanks for watching and commenting and listening to me rant!
Your are the Best Marta you keep up the great work
Mike
Thanks a lot Mike!
Hope you’re having a super day!
I totally agree with you on this Marta. I used to get my news from about 10 sources just to find out what’s really going on in the world. Now that I found your Vlog via YouTube I think I’ll just come here from now on.
It seems like all the networks report the same thing and it’s really frustrating. And forget about local news. All they ever talk about is who died, who got stabbed, and how we’re all being conned by WalMart.
Keep up the good work! You and your kind are the future journalists.
I read your comment about 4 times in a row and I really started thinking, “Why not me?” I’ve spent the last 4 years or so out of reporting, thinking I wasted my chance at a career/education by getting into a business that I feel misrepresents its mission.
But you got me thinking: what if I can help change the landscape for the better? So thank you. I haven’t felt this idealistic since I was in college. Wow. Seriously, thank you.
Way to go Marta. I agree whole heartedly. I can’t stand watching mainstream news, because it’s so entertainment driven. Little is done these days to actually report what is newsworthy.
Back in Undergrad, I used to publish a week-day news update because I was so disheartened by what my fellow students knew about what was going on in the world. Today that is the same. Most people take for granted that what they read or hear on TV is the truth. The critical thinking skills of past generations is quickly evaporating and many simply want to be spoon-fed information.
I tend to pay more attention to health, technology, and world news, as it has less appeal to US audiences or manipulation. But the key factor is always… find out the story and motives of those reporting.
Thanks Steve! It’s exhilarating to know that other people feel the same way. I’m really excited about where this path will lead.
I recently subscribed to your YouTube channel because I like the way you deliver the news with comedy. Our world needs to be able to poke fun at itself that way. There’s more than enough “serious” news out there. But for all your craziness, this vlog posting just kicked you up a notch in my book. The situation here appears to be similar to the hoopla over Will Smith and his Hitler-related quote. Taken out of context, people go nuts about what they mistakenly believe was said.
Kudos to you for reporting with integrity and discretion.
-dan’l
Thanks dan’l for such a nice comment. I agree with you. Sometimes things are just serious. Sometimes there’s room to be satirical. It’s fun and hopefully thought provoking.
Anyways, thanks for bumping me up notch!
Marta, This vlog is why I subscribed to you. I like your take on the news but sometimes the “funny” part takes away from your ability to relate the news and your passion for it. I have seen a different side to you today and I like it.
Thanks Mathias! I’m finding myself really excited to be sharing like this. At first, I felt really vulnerable with the whole vlogging thing, but now I’m finding creating this kind of dialogue is completely worth it so far.
Wow! I love the intensity and morality that you brought to this vlog, Marta, and I agree with you 100%. Hearing your story about the funeral demonstrated to me even more clearly that the mainstream news world wasn’t good enough for you. And it must now be truly awesome for you to be in a position to say that you’re not going to cover something like this as if it is news, when it ISN’T news.
Thank you! And you know something? It is awesome to have this platform and it’s only beginning to dawn on me just what kind of change we might be able to effect. Very exciting. Thanks for your support!
Wow. I’ve been watching the Gnooze for a month or so now, and though I’ve had some issues with your style, this vlog was really enlightening to me about where you’re coming from. I respect your integrity; keep up the good work, Marta.
Thanks so much! I’m glad to have a chance to talk about things like this and even more glad people can understand where I’m coming from.
That TV story hits HOME HOME HOME!
We started to offer a new procedure at the clininc and I wrote to the famous local anchor Paul Majors (I think he moved your way now) to shamelessly promote it. They decided to pick it up as a feature piece for their Thursday 6pm broadcast. By Tuesday I had three other stations clawing over eachother to get in here and “break” the story first. I was grateful that Mr. Majors even agreed to do the story, so I held the others off figuring that there would be trouble. ONe of the other reporters pleaded with me to allow them to shoot the piece ahead of time since she had to leave for a funeral (NO KIDDING) for her grandmother the following day. So I let them in on Thursday afternoon like at 4pm with their PROMISE that they wouldn’t air till Friday. Well, wouldn’t you know - IT WAS ON AT 5:07 Thursday night! Rat Bastard lying reported - I bet she didn’t even HAVE a grandmother!
Sorry about the rat comment Marta - I know your sensitive to rats…
News… BOOOs! I say. From now on it’s the Gnooze or Gnothing for this Goober!
Peace out.
Hey Goober, it’s so true. And it’s despicable. I decided to become a reporter to inform people and tell people’s stories.
Instead I had a an assistant news director tell me once to “make them tell you its a pipe bomb on camera.” Nevermind the fact that I’d just told her the police told me they wouldn’t have test results as to what kind of explosive it was for at least a couple days.
Sure. Just get ‘em to make it up on camera.
I gotta say it’s truly exciting for me to see gnooze viewers responding like this. Thank you!
ONLY PROBLEM NOW IS YOUR 476 New pen pals.
Good luck finding the time to keep up!
G
The pity of it all is,Dianne Keaton said “fuck” on a morning talknewsshow. As for the primary season,we get useless drivel from the “news stations” and no long thought out descriptions of the candidate’s proposals. It will get worse as the conventions draw near.
Thank you for giving a slightlty wacky look at the gnooze,we all need a break.
Tonight at 6: what made Diane Keaton drop the F bomb on Diane Sawyer and how your children could be victimized on the internet and what’s poisoning you!!! Plus a chance to win! Don’t miss the news!
Vomit.
And,don’t get me started on the Spacecraft overflight in Texas.
(One of mine).
This is my first time visiting gnooze. (a gnooze virgin) Glad to see you came down to a 2 from a 10. Ha Ha! Try not to let it get to you. You have a big caring heart and that’s wonderful. Keep up the good work and just keep doing the right thing. Don’t let the wrongfulness and blindness of others get you upset or down. everyone gets what’s coming to them.
Hey Jonathan and welcome! Thanks for the encouragement! It’s really nice of you.
Great vlog, Marta. Your analysis of the typical “news” story reminds me of Geena Davis’s speech in Hero (see it if you haven’t). Maybe if enough people repeat this important truth it will begin to sink in with the general public (one can hope, can’t one?).
This vlog hammers home a sad fact, however; your three topic format, I fear, limits the gnoozecast. The events in Central America and the Middle East are just as important as the events stateside. Perhaps it’s time for an expansion, say six topics per episode?
Thanks for what you do.
I’m adding Hero to my Netflix.
And I’d love to expand gnooze, maybe someday. It’s a two-man (including myself), evening, after work endeavor right now. And it’s pretty labor intensive. But, yeah, absolutely - if I could do this for my day job, I’d make it huge!
Thanks for the nice comment!
Yeh but that’s just how it is with american media,.. not that european media is that much better. Well it is but it still stinks.
So… yes nice rant.
And it is really sad that it’s much more about popularity than about actual politics, more about what people crave to hear than what they should hear and more about who’s able to wiggle her/himself out of REALLY important and touchy subjects than about who takes them on full frontal and then takes a bath in ‘em cause it does matter, it needs real change and it SHOULD be what people want to hear about!!!
*pssst* Marta… hey you,… re-port a-bout De-nnis Ku-cin-ich!… Pretty please!
I’m glad you liked the rant. The more I think about it, the more incensed I become. I thought I’d moved away from news (silly me) and I really thought this show, while informative, was mostly about comedy.
But I’m feeling a truly renewed passion for that which I studied and first pursued a career in… who knows? Maybe I can make for some positive change in the landscape.
Thanks for the support.
Long time watcher, 1’st time commenter,….You’re so fun to watch and now I see very intelligent to, (Always suspected that by the way), but thanks to you’re behind the Gnooze blogs, We get to see you’re mind at work,….Wow, really wish you had a TV show of you’re own, Come on Comedy Central, how about a triple threat, Daily Show, Colbert, & Ganooze!,…Not that would be true Must See TV!
Wow! Thanks Mike! That’s fabulously nice of you. I’m happy you like the show and happy you decided to comment. Thank you.
Oh, and, holy cow, a TV show - wouldn’t that be something?
Great vlog! Your perspective on the mechanics of the news business is fascinating.
Thanks! I’m feeling really inspired to keep this going…
Finally someone with some common sense and a little passion for the news. Knowledge and humor what a great thing you are doing.
Hey thanks for saying so Ron. I’m feeling more energized than ever about things. This really will be 200G!
yea, i can’t really stand the news and media for the same reasons. i totally understand how you can be angry about it. being at a 10 is good, cuz it’s TO THE MAX!
The thing that makes me most angry is that I spent years studying to be a reporter. I went into my journalism career thinking it would be a truly positive way to contribute to the world, only to find crap like this funeral incident.
There’s this common conception in news that it chews people up and spits them out, that people find new careers because they can’t hack it. Well, they’re right about that, but not for the reasons they think they are.
Anyway, I’ll stop ranting AGAIN! Here I go: taking it to the max! Hahaha.
Well done, I think you’re on to something, keep digging.
I have to tell you… think you are HOT…so sexy…and smart too…what a combination…are you single?
Keep up the good work!
Smiles,
Eric
Thanks Eric! I will keep digging! And smiles to you too.
Oh no! Hollywood!? You’ll get “discovered” for sure, and we’ll lose you… (insert sad face here!)
I became disillusioned by the reality of my dream career too after seeing it in its ugly person. And, just like you, I didn’t let it change me and am trying to change it. Keep at it gal! There’s nothing wrong with idealism. In the end, idealism will be cool, especially with people like you endorsing it. P.S. I miss Grandpa’s stinkiness…
Markos
Hi Markos,
I’m enjoying this seeming return to idealism so thanks! And don’t worry about Hollywood - I’ve been here all along. I’m committed to gnooze as it is and future developments, if any, will have to fall in line.
Grandpaw won’t stay away for long.
i was going to post this o my myspace but for some reason i can’t get the codes to work i know nothing about codes so if you could give me any advice on how to make it work that would be great.
Thanks
Philip
Hi Philip, I’m not sure either. I’ll check and let you know if I figure it out.
Hi Martha.
Hope you are in good spirits.
I found your blog inspirational, being a fellow procrastinator.
I want to make a living from my talents as-well, but I am not a self promoter.
I am new to YT, and just bought cam to make vlogs and stuff. Not sure what it will be, but people like you, with there thirst to be heard, is inspiring me to put myself out there to.
Thanks.
All the best wishes to you and your journey.
Take care.
Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
It’s tough when you aren’t the loudest me-me-me person, but I’m glad you’re jumping in. It’s really excited.
Best wishes to you on your journey as well! I’ll be sure to check back on your channel.
Marts, perhaps you can do a pilot, and do the rounds.
In Australia, SBS and ABC is known for giving new shows a go.
cheers.
Andrew
Hi Andrew, thanks for the tip! I think a pilot is on the to-do list.
Great stuff. Even tho I am an admitted (G)news junkie and A leftist - I totally missed the Guatemala story - thanx, and FYI there are better links to the story than BLOOMberg.Com

Besides not Hillary/Obama - wheres the news on Kucinich and Ron Paul? People are finally beginning to see what it is we are being fed, despite the Lame Stream News and marketing gurus warning us to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!
Head back to NY and work with Amy Goodman - u guys together would be great!

Hey Tom, thanks for the comments! I’m reading up on Amy Goodman now. What a resume!
I’m really loving the response to this. I’m just overwhelmed. At the risk of sounding maudlin, this feels like an awakening for me. More to come…
OMG! You just said everything that I’ve felt about reporting! I was actually the News Editor at my college newspaper, and I had my advisor yell at me for not localizing the anthrax scare (right after 9/11). And he wasn’t upset because he thought it was news, he was upset because we got scooped.
Granted, I was so pissed about it I stuck a rookie reporter on it and ran it on page three because people could just read the days headlines in the paper. When we should have been reporting on stuff that oh, actually mattered to the everyday person.
You rock. Although I still feel guilty that I didn’t localize the anthrax scare… I suppose that makes me a horrible person.
Oh yes, much in the way that I’m horrible person for refusing to push a man whose 8 year daughter had just been raped into an on-camera interview.
I’m sickened that I even knocked on his door and wasted his time at my assistant news director’s behest.
WHY DO THEY THINK THIS IS STUFF IS NEWS???
Good for you for making a stand even in college! You rock!
Your doing a great Marta, Keep it up
Thanks very much Jerry!
Marta, I really enjoyed this vlog. Excellent work.
When you are a rich and famous TV personality, I will tell everyone I knew you when.
Thanks! I’m glad you think so! Television personality huh?
Marta,
Do you think the hoopla after the blurb is a news non event, yet you make serious comment instead of a comedy comment. It got you to be serious for a reason.
Other than that, you rock, lady!
I also have one of your newscasts up in my blog:
http://blovinator.blogspot.com/2008/01/i-woke-up-from-my-hangover-and-this.html
Thanks Piktor! For your viewership and commenting and posting one of my shows in your blog! Much appreciated.
[…] uma leitura ‘como faria o homem na rua’ do frenesim mediático em torno de umas declarações […]
I agree.
Thanks Peter!
You are Awesome and Totally right! I hate the headliners many of the news services consider news worthy. Sometimes it seems they are just one day ahead of the Enquirer and other non news-worthy sources.
Have a GREAT 2008! And keep up the good work.
Thank you! Have a great 200G(Great)! It’s so refreshing that other people are thinking about this and receptive to discussing it. I’m still taking it all in… *percolating another vlog*
Yeah, it’s an old problem, unfortunately, the state of our media. It’s part of the reason I like going to BBC’s website, just so I can get something outside of our national perspective. Even there, though, I didn’t see things like the Guatemala story. Gotta keep branching out.
True! I work hard to stay abreast of all that I can and still miss things. Damn day job.
you know if you put this to some dramatic speech type music and maybe put an american flag behind you it would be perfect
what do you do as a day job?
OK, I saw your NASA Messenger vid, and I thought, she’s hilarious… then I saw this one. I just added you to my Bloglines list. These Revver vids actually show up within Bloglines, too, which is cool. Keep up the good work.
Omg, honesty and integrity, and more than that, a level of sensibility! I think someone just slapped me with a refreshing stick.
Thanks, I’m your latest, greatest fan now and I’ll tell all my faithful followers to flock to your gnooze!(because they are oooh so plentiful, them followers).
This vlog was the media in a nutshell! It kills me that CNN seems to care more about Britney’s rehab than suicide bombers in Baghdad. Where are the Bernsteins and Woodwards nowadays? The Edward R. Murrows?
Wow ! That was so good ! I got sick of local/national news I hardly watch T.V. anymore. Glad you pointed out that they are sound bites and clipped for a purpose. You got major responses ! Keep up this great work !
ALOHA.
You hit the nail on the head Marta. It’s fluff fluff and more fluff. To get the real news people need to get further and further from the Mainstream corporate media to places like Democracy Now online and of course, The Gnooze.
MyHotComments
I certainly hope the future of reporting looks like this. It’s hard to stomach the mainstream news. Even NPR has started to cover the race rather than the issues. Nothing good can come from being uninformed.
Thanks for doing this and keep covering substantial issues. When I see stuff like this I have hope for the future.
Rick
Oh and the fact that you take the time to respond to almost every comment is awesome.
I just want to say you are a reporter that thinks like me.I always wondered why news organizations reported the same old “crap ball stories” and then try to top each other in the same old “crap ball way”.I don’t the lead story of the day to be paris, britney or like you said, taking a sound bite, and just for fun, making it the lead news story. It’s the same crap and who cares who leading with the crap.we’re all going to hear about it sooner or later.I have a life away from the T.V.. News organizations act like the whole fricking world is sitting in front of the T.V. all fricking day …when I got sh*t to do!…so…There are many news worthy stories that are being missed everyday.thank you for bring our attention to this.
I couldnt agree with you more about the mixed up coverage in the news and really appreciate the consideration you put into picking the headlines you talk about in the GNOOZE! Keep it up!
I really like your show and I really like the that you vlog. I was hoping that you might be able to make a separate RSS feed for your vlogs. I am subscribed to gnooze on itunes but you vlog is way too good to miss and would like to know when it’s updated without having every episode show up in my blog feed folder. Thanks a lot. Keep up the great work. There needs to be a place for good reporting. maybe the interwebs is the place to start.
Marta~
I just stumbled upon your ‘gnooze’ site purely on accident, and i LOVE IT!! You’re AWESOME and insightful and funny and smart and witty and TRUE!! Keep gnooze-ing and I’ll keep watching!!
THANKS!! ~ naomi
First time I’ve seen one of your vlogs. I couldn’t agree with you more. Imagine though, some of these “news” will eventually become a part of history books and that’s when it gets really scary. I don’t mean to be so gloomy but it reminds me partly of Orwell’s 1984 where they actually eliminate other standards of comparisons so people are more ignorant of the status quo. I check Yahoo World News and sometimes more than half of the headlines are about US involvement in the Middle East. Or when they say Pakistan is our friend, they really mean that the current Pakistani rulers are only friends with the current U.S. leader. Bill Schneider from CNN is one of the worst offenders. I’m sorry Marta, I’m going on my own rant now about how news (not Gnooze
) stations these days are not trustworthy. Keep it up is all I gotta say!
DAMN! You go, Marta! That was badass!
(and applicable).
Marta Hun, you are as always right on the mark. There is alot of things that goes on that the “normal public” has no clue of whats going. Around the world, things are happening that is news worthy and all we ever hear are the things that “They”, {the media} , Think we need to know. Well “BULL SH%T”. They really think that people are dumb? Well maybe some are but I die-gress. I’ll stop now … Any-Whooo Keep it commin …. Your fresh, funny, and DAMN CUTE!! {did i say that hehehe}
Thank You Marta its great to hear real comentary on whats relevent. You had to feel real good after venting Your take on sound bites and invented news .
I give You an 11 out of 10 its good to see real passion keep up the good work. this had to your best VLOG yet.
First time viewer and I love the gnooze! You are so funny and have such a good personality
Keep up the good work and I will keep watching and can’t wait to tell all my friends about Gnooze.com

It isn’t just teevee news. I’m a former newspaper city editor who frequently questioned the editor in chief’s story selection for A1. His rationale was typically, “Well, the (San Jose) Mercury News had it.” Uh, yeah — they’re a major metro a.m. and we were a small-town p.m. Good call, bunky.
Hell, go to (hope I coded that right) and see how many U.S. papers have the same stories on A1. Lemmings, I tell you! Freakin’ lemmings!
Btw, Marta — I was all set to not like you at first glance; I saw another News Twinkie. But, gawrsh, you’re just aDORable, and smart ‘n’ stuff. I’m gonna post Gnooze all over the left-wing site where I hang out.
Ar! I gefuckt the coding! :banghead:
Lemme try again.
Marta you are so right. The ‘News’ is subjective. It depends on which channel gets there first. Even in the UK we are suffering from US ‘election overload’ and alot of it is the, he said, she said variety. Meanwhile Kenya is in danger of going down the pan, Zimbabwe is in the hands of a madman, Darfur starves and bleeds and Kosovo holds it’s breath to see which side blinks first. Oh and jolly old Pakistan has held an election today……well there were ballot boxes out and bits of paper were put in them.
Keep up the good work. x

I have them loving the gnooze.
Fantastic. It’s amazing to me, how very few people really think about how the news is created. So many people believe every single thing they see on the news is an “absolute fact” and that the anchors are giving them what really is the most important information for the day. When in fact the news is created in much the same way as a tabloid; let’s print what sells. For me, it took being on the other side of the articles and reading what the press had to say about my work, in order to understand that a good portion of the news is outright fiction. It should be a journalist’s job to translate the day’s events into something that makes sense to a viewer who is not well-versed in the history or significance of the day’s events. Unfortunately, what we’re seeing more often than not in the news, is a group of news media *creating* news from insignificant events, such as Sen Clinton’s off-hand comment. And, to me, it is unfortunate that the majority of the public believes wholeheartedly that what they are seeing in the evening news, or headline news, or on-line news, is completely and truely real.
Marta, I love your show. Keep up the good work.
Marta, I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s truely amazing how some reporters will try to make a story about something as insignificant as an innocent comment. It’s like they are trying to create a whole new issue or stir up a hornet’s nest about nothing. The sad thing is, 90% of the time they succeed.
I also want to say how much I enjoy your shows. You are a very talented lady and I think you’ll make a name for yourself there in LA. Keep up the good work….you’re great!!!
MARRY ME MARTA! lol but anyway yea I totally agree with your views on all of the issues you covered. Thumbs up from me!

According to my investigation, thousands of persons on our planet get the home loans at good creditors. Thence, there is a good chance to receive a student loan in all countries.
